Neck Lift Surgery

As we age, the muscles and skin of our neck and lower face begin to sag and lose definition. Jowls may form as muscles loosen and fat deposits along the jaw line. Fat is also deposited under the chin, causing the neck to become thick and wide. The neck muscles weaken and separate, further weakening the shape and structure of the neck, causing a “turkey gobbler” effect.

What is a Neck Lift?? A Neck Lift rejuvenates the neck by reducing fullness and sagging that can occur due to heredity or the effects of aging. Neck Liposuction is often used in conjunction with a Neck Lift to suck out excess fatty deposits. In some cases, a light treatment may also be used to tighten sagging skin and improve the final result. This can be done on the whole neck, or simply beneath the chin.

How does a Neck Lift work?? There are many different ways to achieve a more aesthetic neckline, determined by each individual’s anatomy and preferences. An isolated Neck Lift requires incisions in the back of the ear, with repositioning of the tissues and removal of excess skin.

What can a patient expect during the procedure?? A Neck Lift can take anywhere between 2-3 hours to perform. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia and IV/oral Sedation.

What can a patient expect after the procedure?? Post-operative discomfort is minimal and most patients return to light work after 1-2 weeks. However, most patients will have swelling and bruising that can last for several days. Patients may also experience tightness or tingling, and different sensations including burning, pulling and numbness. These are all very normal in the first few weeks following surgery and should not be cause for concern.
